LSAT Practice Timer

The LSAT is four 35 minute sections with a 10 minute intermission after the second. Since August 2024 there are no logic games: two scored Logical Reasoning sections, one scored Reading Comprehension section, and one unscored section that looks exactly like the others.

The timer has two buttons here, section (35 minutes) and intermission (10). Run a section, then another, then the intermission, then the last two sections.

Pacing Logical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension

A Logical Reasoning section has about 24 to 26 questions, so roughly 80 to 85 seconds each, but the early questions are usually easier. A good target is to be about halfway through the questions at 15 minutes, which leaves extra time for the harder ones at the end. Question counts vary by test, so the table above uses 25 as a typical number.

Reading Comprehension has four passages, so about 8 to 9 minutes per passage with its questions. Read for the author's view and the structure of the argument, not the details. You can always go back for details.

Practise all four, not three

You will not know which section is unscored, so it gets your full effort on the day. Practise with four sections too, using an extra section from another test, so section four does not feel like overtime. The intermission is your one chance to reset; take it away from the desk.

LSAT Argumentative Writing is taken separately, online, with a short prewriting phase before the essay. Practise it on the countdown timer. Applying to other programs too? See the GRE practice timer.
