SAT Practice Timer

The digital SAT is four timed modules and one break: two Reading and Writing modules of 32 minutes, a 10 minute break, then two Math modules of 35 minutes. That is 2 h 24 min in total. In place of the pomodoro buttons, the timer here has the SAT's own: reading & writing (32 minutes), break (10) and math (35).

Use it with an official practice test from Bluebook, or with any paper practice set, to get used to the real rhythm.

Timings follow the official structure published by College Board, SAT test structure, checked in October 2026. Test makers change formats, so check the official page before test day.

Pacing the two sections

Reading and Writing gives you about 71 seconds per question. The questions are short, one passage each, so the risk is not running out of time on one question but spending 3 minutes on a hard one early and rushing the last five. Mark it, guess, move on, and come back if time is left.

Math gives you about 95 seconds per question, and the built-in Desmos calculator is allowed on every question. Students who practise with Desmos solve many algebra questions faster by graphing than by hand, so practise with the same tool you will have on the day.

Both sections are adaptive by module: how you do on module 1 decides how hard module 2 is. A strong first module matters, so do not treat it as a warm-up.

Making a home practice test feel real

  • Do it in one sitting, at the time of day you will test, usually the morning.
  • Take the break as written. Ten minutes, out of the chair, a snack and water, back on time.
  • No pausing. If you pause on test day you lose the time, so practise without the pause button.
  • Review the next day, not straight after, and spend more time on the review than the test.

For a single module on its own, set the countdown timer to 32 or 35 minutes. Other exams are on the exam timer page.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the digital SAT?

Two hours and 14 minutes of testing: Reading and Writing in two 32 minute modules, a 10 minute break, and Math in two 35 minute modules.

How much time do you get per question on the SAT?

About 71 seconds per question in Reading and Writing (27 questions in 32 minutes) and about 95 seconds in Math (22 questions in 35 minutes).

How do I time a full SAT practice test?

Press reading & writing and run module 1. When it ends the timer moves to the break; press reading & writing again and run module 2 straight away, since there is no break between modules. Then run the break, and the two Math modules the same way.
