Build a Notion Study Dashboard
pomofox · October 2, 2026
A study dashboard is one Notion page you open every time you sit down to work: a timer, today's tasks, your courses and a log of what you did. This guide builds one from an empty page in about 20 minutes, starting with the pomodoro timer.
If you are new to timed sessions, the pomodoro technique guide explains the method the dashboard is built around.
1. Create the page and the layout
Create a new page called "Study" and pick an icon and cover you like. Type /columns and choose two columns. The left column is for doing: timer and tasks. The right column is for knowing: courses and the session log.
2. Add the timer
- Copy the address of the pomodoro timer on the pomofox homepage.
- In the left column, type /bookmark and choose Web bookmark.
- Paste the link. Notion shows a card with the pomofox preview.
- Click it whenever you start a study block; the timer opens in its own tab, next to Notion.
- With pomofox Pro, use the floating timer to keep a small copy of the timer on top of Notion.
3. Add today's tasks
Under the bookmark, add a heading "Today" and a to-do list with three items. Three, not ten. Each one should be something you can finish in one to four pomodoros. If it needs more, split it. At the start of each day, clear yesterday's list and write today's.
4. Add a course database
In the right column, type /database and create an inline table called "Courses". Give it these properties: Name, Exam date (date), Weekly target (number of pomodoros) and Notes. Add one row per course. Opening a course row gives you a page for that course's notes and resources.
5. Add a session log
Below the courses, create a second database, "Sessions", with properties: Date, Course (a relation to Courses), Pomodoros (number) and What I did (text). At the end of each study block, add one row. It takes ten seconds and, after a few weeks, it shows exactly where your time went.
Add a rollup on the Courses database that sums Pomodoros from Sessions for each course. Compare it to the weekly target and you can see at a glance which course is behind.
6. Make it a habit
- Pin the page to your sidebar, or set it as the page Notion opens on start.
- Open it before anything else when you sit down to study.
- Write today's three tasks, start the timer, and do not leave the page until the first session ends.
Prefer paper? A sheet with one row per day does the same job. Streaming your study sessions? Add pomofox to OBS as a browser source.
